On Saturday we had the pleasure of attending Beats, Boards & BBQs — a free community festival at Charlton Park that brought together music, skateboarding, parkour, art, and local culture in one space.
This was the first time parkour had been included in the festival lineup, and we made sure it left a mark.
Throughout the day, Parkour UK & Spiral Freerun delivered open training sessions, workshops, and competitions — offering attendees of all ages a chance to move, explore, and experience parkour in a safe and welcoming environment.
The energy was non-stop, and the best part? Seeing so many young people getting stuck in, pushing themselves, and leaving with huge smiles (and a bit of sweat!).
We ran a number of "on the spot" competitions throughout the day.
We started with "the highest dive roll" - Max & Sam pushed their height to the limit by holding a piece of fabric well over their heads. TJ was the winner, leaving with a new Parkour UK tshirt.
We then moved into the largest running jump, utilising the edge of the skatepark. Flora won for the women's, and James won for the men's. Both won a pair of OLLO footwear parkour shoes.
Embracing one of the community's favourite past-times, we had a small "hacky sack" (or footbag) competition, where Tibor walked away with a Supa XXL tshirt and sticker pack.
We want to thank the following partners as we couldn’t have done it without their incredible support.
Spiral Freerun – We want to thank Luke & Omar for their expertise on delivering parkour workshops for young children and teenagers. They also provided their parkour equipment from their indoor facility in Bedford, which allowed those who attended the event to give parkour a go!
Brick / GYMNOVA – Brick/Gymnova supplied some equipment for our event in Scarborough, which also ran this weekend. They've supported Spiral Freerun before, and we had the chance to bring some of their high-quality equipment to Beats, Boards, and BBQs this weekend! It was a hit, with a lot of positive remarks. It helped us transform footpaths and basketball courts into a designated parkour training area.
OLLO footwear – Ollo provided us a few pairs of their shoes to give away throughout the event.
SUPA XXL and the London Parkour Community - From the very start they helped us set up for the event, which included moving equipment, setting up gazebos, and supporting the kids who gave parkour a go throughout the day. They also stayed back at the end of the event to help us clear the space, and pack away the equipment.
This event is a great example of how parkour can be included into multi-sport festivals, opening up opportunities for engagement and inspiring active lifestyles in new communities.
Thanks to everyone who came by, supported, moved, and made this day one to remember.
