New Parkour Park Opens in Peterborough

A new parkour park, developed by the community, has opened in Peterborough.

7 years ago, the Aspire Parkour Academy team approached Peterborough Council to lobby for a new parkour park to be built in the area.

After a few back and forth conversations and some slight tweaks to the designs that the Aspire Parkour team had put together, the park was very recently approved for construction & opened within a few weeks.

The park features the usual set ups that you will see in parkour parks, including walls, rails, pillars, and platforms.

It's located at Oundle Road Recreation Ground, near the Cherry Tree basketball courts, and was built by Ten Group.

A Facebook post regarding the park was published by the Aspire Parkour Academy team which said the following.

"This is a massive milestone for our community. We're proud that Peterborough now has one of its own outdoor parkour spaces. It's a completely free, public facility built for anyone and everyone to train, progress, and move." - Aspire Parkour Academy.

Aspire Parkour also ran an unofficial opening of the parkour park on Sunday 14th June. This was an opportunity for the team from Aspire to come down and engage with the local parents and children of the area to promote their parkour classes and help people get started with parkour.

We attended this event, and it was incredible to see so many people utilising the space & learning how to move.

The Aspire Parkour team did a fantastic job engaging with the local children and showing them how to approach movement within parkour safely.

Not every family can afford a parkour session with a coaching organisation or an indoor facility, and that's why outdoor public spaces like this are so important. It provides opportunities for people to move without the worry of costs.

We spoke to some of the local parents in the area about their thoughts on the space. One of them said;

"Having a space like this is brilliant, and something we've needed for a little while. There is a skatepark, but it's difficult to buy skates and bikes when you have multiple children. It's great that there is something here where the parents don't have to spend money on pieces of equipment."
