Is the British Champs & Parkour Earth World Championships made to rival SPL & other competitions?

No, the British Championships and Parkour Earth World Championships were not made to rival SPL & other competition formats, and we want competitors & the community know that they are not expected to ever make a choice between one or the other.

Parkour Earth & SPL recently released a Memorandum of Understanding. This established a framework for cooperation based on mutual respect, open communication, and clearly define, complementary roles.

The agreement recognises Parkour Earth's role as the international federation safeguarding the independence and governance of parkour, and SPL's role in delivering a professional, entertainment-drive World Series that increases the sport's visibility.

With the Parkour Earth World Championships on the horizon, the British Championships were created as a pre-selection event for the Parkour Earth World Championships.

Similar to the Memorandum of Understanding between Parkour Earth & SPL, we know that other competitions in parkour exist, and we want to support those competitions, as it helps our sport grow!

Does attending, competing, and qualifying in the British championships & the world championships affect my attendance at events like SPL?

No. As mentioned above, SPL & Parkour Earth recognise each other's competitions & the roles we play within parkour. The MoU does not merge systems or create joint events. Instead, it provides a transparent basis for dialogue, calendar coordination, and the exploration of aligned qualification pathways, while ensuring that athletes and organisers remain free to choose their own path.

You can read the full Memorandum of Understanding here.

Transgender Inclusion Policy FAQs

WHY HAS PARKOUR UK INTRODUCED THIS POLICY?

Parkour UK has introduced this policy to provide a clear, lawful and consistent framework for competition. As the National Governing Body, we have a responsibility to organise competitions in accordance with the Equality Act 2010 while ensuring fair competition and providing opportunities for everyone to participate.

what competition categories will be available?

For competitors aged 16 and over, Parkour UK competitions will offer two categories: Female and Open. Eligibility for each category is set out in the Transgender Inclusion Policy.

Can transgender athletes still compete?

Yes. The policy ensures that all athletes aged 16 and over have a category in which they are eligible to compete. The Open category is available to athletes regardless of sex or gender reassignment status.

Why won't parkour uk simply allow athletes to compete according to their gender identity?

Parkour UK carefully considered a range of approaches during the development of this policy. However, as the National Governing Body, we have a responsibility to comply with the Equality Act 2010 and to consider fairness in competitive sport. Having reviewed the law, relevant guidance, consultation feedback and the characteristics of competitive parkour, we concluded that the policy should be based on the legal framework for sex-based competition categories in gender-affected sport. The policy also ensures that all athletes continue to have a category in which they can compete.

wHY IS THERE AN "OPEN" CATEGORY?

The Open category allows Parkour UK to provide an inclusive competitive opportunity for all athletes while also maintaining a female category based on the eligibility criteria set out in the policy and supported by the legal framework for gender-affected sport.

wHY DOES parkour UK consider parkour to be a gender-affected sport?

The Equality Act recognises that some sports may be affected by differences in physical strength, stamina or physique between the sexes. Parkour competition can involve factors such as explosive power, sprint speed, jump height, upper and lower body strength, grip strength, reach and stature, all of which can influence competitive outcomes.

Which law is parkour uk following?

The policy is based on the Equality Act 2010 and has been informed by guidance issued by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), including its Code of Practice relating to services, public functions and associations.

why has parkour uk published the policy now?

The policy has been developed following two years of consultation, learning and governance review. With the first British Championships taking place in August 2026, Parkour UK believes it is important to provide clarity for athletes, officials and spectators.

was the community consulted?

Yes. In 2025, Parkour UK commissioned an independent consultation undertaken by the Sport and Recreation Alliance Research Team. This included face-to-face interviews, online questionnaires and stakeholder engagement, and helped inform the development of the policy.

how will eligibility be verified?

Parkour UK does not routinely require athletes to provide documentary evidence of eligibility. However, the organisation may request information or documentation where necessary to determine eligibility in accordance with the policy.

What happens if someone disagrees with an eligibility decision?

The policy includes a formal appeals process. Athletes who believe a decision has been made in error may submit an appeal, which will be reviewed through a structured process with independent representation.

Will the policy be reviewed in future?

The policy includes a formal appeals process. Athletes who believe a decision has been made in error may submit an appeal, which will be reviewed through a structured process with independent representation.
